The Appalachian College Association (ACA) is a non-profit consortium of 35 private four-year liberal arts institutions spread across the central Appalachian Mountains in Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. Collectively these higher education institutions serve over 51,000 students.

The mission of the Bowen Central Library of Appalachia (BCLA) is to provide ACA member institutions with the most advanced library information resources at the most economical price. The BCLA fulfills the mission by providing ACA member institutions with the Core Collection along with professional development opportunities and technology services to enable effective use of these resources to achieve the best possible student learning outcomes.
